Bustleton Library's Stitching Legacy Invites Neighbors to Leave Their Mark

Bustleton's library is stitching neighbors into the same story. Stitching Legacy: A Community Art Project is back on the Free Library calendar for Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Bustleton Library, 10199 Bustleton Avenue (Verree Road and Bustleton Avenue), after an earlier session on Oct. 3. People paint, stitch and add neighborhood photos to a large community tapestry.

Bustleton has a town-within-the-city feel. Busy avenues, green pockets along the Pennypack, and a branch library that still acts like a living room. A Saturday morning that asks you to leave a piece of yourself on the wall is an easy invitation to say yes to.

What's on the schedule

The Free Library's listing says participants add their story to a large community artwork celebrating Bustleton past and present, guided by local fiber artists. Paint, stitching and neighborhood photos are all fair game. All ages and skill levels are welcome, and the finished piece will hang in the library for years to come.

Northeast Times' Around Town column covered the Oct. 3 session the same way: bring your story, get creative, leave something that stays. The Free Library says lead support for its Hyperlocal Heritage program comes from the William Penn Foundation, with more from the Philadelphia Funder Collaborative for the Semiquincentennial.

Why it's worth showing up

This is an easy way to put your mark on a Northeast Philly landmark that grandparents and first-time stitchers can share. The tapestry stays up for years, so one Saturday morning turns into something neighbors keep walking past long after October.
