An 18-piece all-star orchestra is bringing Pennsylvania's jazz history to a high school stage in Huntingdon Valley. The Keystone Jazz Orchestra performs PA 250 "Our Jazz Story" on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, at 7 p.m. at Lower Moreland High School, 555 Red Lion Road. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students.
It's the Philadelphia-area stop on a five-city tour, according to the PA Jazz Alliance's tour list, with other dates in Erie, Misericordia University in Dallas, Pa., Hershey and Pittsburgh.
Led by artistic director and drummer Marko Marcinko, the orchestra traces how jazz traveled north from New Orleans and found a home in Pennsylvania, from early jazz and swing to bebop, post-bop and modern fusion. The story touches legends with strong Pennsylvania connections, including John Coltrane, Billie Holiday, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Art Blakey, George Benson, Nina Simone, Henry Mancini and Benny Golson.
Pennsylvania state representatives and senators join the orchestra on stage to narrate the program, with projected images. The lead narrators are State Rep. Joe Ciresi (146th District) and State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski (121st District). Philadelphia saxophonist Chris Oatts is in the lineup, along with vocalist Amy Banks.
The PA Jazz Alliance presents the series with Pennsylvania Creative Industries and the National Endowment for the Arts, and the concert supports America250 PA's mission to celebrate Pennsylvania history. Goodwill donations to the Lower Moreland Jazz Orchestra will also be accepted.
A touring all-star big band at $15 a seat, close to home on a Thursday night, is a rare find. It's also a fun way for students and families to hear the music that shaped Pennsylvania.
