Bucks Co. & Beyond Daily
by Nick Rau
In Plumsteadville, the work at one pretzel shop starts closer to 3 a.m., hours before most of Bucks County has hit snooze. That's the daily rhythm at The Salt Box, the family-run pretzel and ice cream shop at 5840 Easton Road, which 6abc's FYI Philly featured on Oct. 25, 2026. The doors open at 6:30 a.m., the pretzels keep coming out fresh all day, and nearly everything on the menu, from the stuffed-pretzel fillings to the coffee syrups, is made from scratch, 6abc reported.
Philadelphia's soft pretzel is a regional birthright, so it takes something special to make people drive for one, and The Salt Box takes the classic in a few directions at once. The stuffed pretzels come in flavors like cheesesteak, honey sriracha chicken and spinach dip, with each filling made in-house, and the breakfast sandwiches swap a roll for a pretzel bun, according to 6abc. Then there's the sweet side, because the shop is also home to Sweet Pea Ice Cream, whose seasonal flavors rotate through the year. BUCKSCO.Today, recapping the 6abc segment on Oct. 26, noted earlier coverage of flavors like toasted coconut, salted caramel, cherry vanilla and devil's chocolate.
The grown-up menu is a nice surprise, too. The coffee program runs to cold brews with seasonal syrups made on site, and the shop holds a winery license, which lets it make its own sangria alongside boozy milkshakes and coffee drinks, 6abc reported. In other words, you can show up for a breakfast sandwich at 7 and come back for a sangria and a scoop on a warm afternoon, and nobody will judge you for either.
None of this happens by accident. The Salt Box is run by the Marinelli family, and the early-morning prep falls to a mother and son who start well before opening every day, 6abc reported. "It is literally every morning like you're waking up and throwing a party," the owner said, as quoted by BUCKSCO.Today. The family's own website traces the pretzel side of the business to a first pretzel bakery that opened in 1999, and the Bucks County Herald, in a 2022 profile, described The Salt Box as the family's dream come true: a cafƩ-style pretzel shop with a variety of flavors and fillings. That dream still runs on 3 a.m. alarms, which tells you how much work goes into every tray.
Hours are posted on the shop's website and can change around holidays, so it's worth a quick check before a long drive, and remember that Monday is a day off. If you're coming for breakfast, the pretzel-bun sandwiches stop at 11 a.m. on the posted schedule. The stuffed flavors named in the 6abc segment are a good starting point, but with a menu built around seasonal ingredients, expect the lineup to shift through the fall and winter.
