Bucks Co. & Beyond Daily
Old York Road just got its bookstore back. Barnes & Noble opened to the public on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026, at Noble Town Center — 905 Old York Road, Suite 100, in the Jenkintown section of Abington Township — with a 9 a.m. ribbon cutting that made it official: eastern Montgomery County has a full-size bookseller again.
I've watched that stretch of Old York Road remake itself for years. A more-than-20,000-square-foot Barnes & Noble in the former Bed Bath & Beyond space next to Ross is the kind of everyday amenity that quietly changes how a corridor feels.
According to Barnes & Noble's Sept. 11, 2026 announcement and Abington Patch reporting, the new store sits across the road from the chain's old Jenkintown home, which closed in 2013 after opening in 1993. Patch put the floor plan at more than 20,000 square feet. Public hours, per Patch's Sept. 17 grand-opening coverage, are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Opening day brought a ribbon cutting and book signing with local author K.L. Walther, plus Biscuit the Dog storytimes over the following weekend, Barnes & Noble said. Store manager Angelica Casner framed the goal plainly: a welcoming gathering place shaped by neighbors, not just a place to buy books. CEO James Daunt called it a joy to reopen in a community the chain had long belonged to, and the company said Jenkintown is one of 60 new Barnes & Noble stores opening in 2026.
This is not a tiny pop-up. Barnes & Noble itself noted the symmetry of landing just across from the old store, and Barnes & Noble called the store emblematic of a renaissance of physical bookstores after a decade of closures. Patch also noted it fills the void left when the nearby Willow Grove store closed a few years ago, so for Abington Township readers, a big browse is close to home again.
What's still unknown from the public announcements is the full local events calendar beyond the opening weekend. Check the store's page and in-store boards for author nights, book clubs and kids' programs as they land.

A town that can support a full-size bookstore again is a town people want to hang around in — and Old York Road feels a little more complete this fall.
