Since 1996, a family backyard in Croydon has turned into a Halloween haunt full of monsters, coffins and a volunteer cast that calls itself the Boo Crew, and Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026, is the last night it happens at that house. Croydon Haunted Hollows, the free, volunteer-run nonprofit haunt at 507 Girard Ave. in the Croydon section of Bristol Township, is wrapping up its final season at the Prendergast family home, which ran Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 31, LevittownNow reported on Oct. 30. The good news is that founder Colleen Prendergast isn't planning a goodbye so much as a move, and she's already talking with Bristol Township Parks and Recreation about where the Hollows goes next.

Why this little haunt matters

What started as a family Halloween tradition in 1996 became a nonprofit in 2018, and that same year the Hollows became what it calls the first haunted walkthrough in the country with a dedicated sensory-friendly experience, designed for people with autism, sensory sensitivities and other disabilities. During those hours there are no strobe lights, fog or overwhelming sound effects, according to the group's Eventbrite listing. Kids get to flip the script, too: say "Boo!" to one of the characters and the monster becomes the one who's scared. Even during the regular nighttime shows, a guest who gets overwhelmed can use a secret password that tells the actors to turn friendly right away, and the whole walkthrough is wheelchair accessible.

Prendergast took the idea national this past April, pitching it at the Northeast Haunter's Convention and challenging haunted attractions across the country to set aside at least one sensory-friendly hour each season. "I love a good scare as much as anyone, but nobody should have to miss out on Halloween because the experience is too overwhelming," she told LevittownNow.

What to expect Saturday

This year's theme leans into true crime, with every scene "based 'on a true story,'" Prendergast said, from criminal mysteries to cult-inspired rooms and legendary creatures. The Hollows works a bit like an artists' collective, so each volunteer gets a piece of the property and builds their own concept, characters and scenery. The sensory-friendly walkthrough features a cast of about 25 characters and takes around 15 minutes, per the Eventbrite listing, and costumes are welcome.

What happens next

No new location or partnership has been finalized, LevittownNow reported, but the group is looking for a place with more room, shelter from October weather and the accessibility it needs. Bristol Township Parks and Recreation plans to walk through the haunt this year, Prendergast said, and she hopes that leads somewhere. "We aren't just looking for a building. We're looking for a place where this mission can continue to grow," she said. If you have ideas, the Hollows lists its contact information on its website.
