Portnoy's Bucks County Pizza Run: An 8.1 in Langhorne, a 7.8 in Morrisville

by Nick Rau

Pizza has always been a serious subject in Bucks County, and on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, it got a very public grade. Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who grades pizzerias in his "One Bite" videos, made three stops here that day: Abruzzi Ristorante in Langhorne, La Villa Pizza & Family Restaurant in Morrisville and Mama Russo's Pizzeria in Trevose. Two of the scores are now out, an 8.1 for Abruzzi and a 7.8 for La Villa, according to Portnoy's One Bite reviews and reporting from Patch and 94.5 PST. The third is still on its way, which makes this the rare pizza review with a cliffhanger.

The trip came together quickly. On Wednesday, Oct. 7, Portnoy asked his Facebook followers, "Any great pizza in trenton/philly area I haven't done yet? I think that's the next pizza trip," and the post drew more than 5,000 comments, 94.5 PST reported. Two days later he was in Bucks County, and it wasn't his first visit this year, because Patch notes he stopped at Pizza Di Vita on Lincoln Highway in Fairless Hills in mid-August. So if it feels like he keeps coming back, he does, and I take that as a sign our local pizzerias are doing something right.

Abruzzi Ristorante, Langhorne: an 8.1

Abruzzi, at 1259 Wood Lane in Middletown Township (Langhorne mailing address), opened last year and was named the best Italian restaurant in Bucks County by Bucks Happening this spring, 94.5 PST reported in April. Portnoy ordered its Chambersburg pie (Chambersburg is the Trenton neighborhood famous for tomato pies) and gave it an official 8.1. The owners then asked him to wait for a second pie, a thinner version called the Thin Burg with an almost cracker-like crust, which 94.5 PST described on Oct. 16 as so new it hadn't made the menu yet. Portnoy liked it a little better and called it an unofficial 8.2, while reminding the owner that the 8.1 is the score that counts.

The owner's reaction was pure joy. "Dave walked in, and I was speechless. I didn't even know what to do or say, I was honestly in a state of shock," the owner said in a Facebook post that Patch quoted on Oct. 9. The crowds since then have been real, too, because 94.5 PST reported that Abruzzi delayed its opening on Sunday, Oct. 11, to prep after an overwhelming Saturday. That's the kind of problem every small restaurant hopes to have.

La Villa, Morrisville: a 7.8

La Villa, at 21 S. Pennsylvania Ave. in Morrisville, has been making pizza since 1998, and owner Gino Lenti, who learned to cook as a boy on a farm in Calabria, built his tomato pie after a friend took him to Trenton in 2005 to taste the Chambersburg originals, according to a 2024 Bucks County Magazine profile. That Trenton-style tomato pie is what Portnoy came for, and La Villa makes it square, which 94.5 PST says caught him off guard. Patch reports he marveled at how "very light" it was and compared it to something like a Detroit pizza and a Trenton tomato pie. He landed on a 7.8, and La Villa called the visit "a moment we're proud to celebrate" in a Facebook post. For a pie that surprised the reviewer, I'd call that a strong showing.

Mama Russo's, Trevose: still waiting

Mama Russo's Pizzeria, at 608 Philadelphia Ave. in Trevose, shared photos with Portnoy and wrote, "What an honor to have the man himself," and he even changed into one of the shop's "Gaba-Ghoul" Halloween T-shirts, according to 94.5 PST and Patch. Patch reported on Oct. 16 that he hadn't released a rating yet, and as of Sunday morning, Oct. 18, there was still no Portnoy review for Mama Russo's on One Bite. One planning note before you go: Mama Russo's is open Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and closed on Sundays, according to its website. So this one is a weekday lunch, and you may get to taste it before the score drops.

If you go

Here's the quick version, with scores from One Bite and addresses from each restaurant or its listing:

  • Abruzzi Ristorante, 1259 Wood Lane, Langhorne: 8.1 official (Chambersburg pie), 8.2 unofficial (Thin Burg)
  • La Villa Pizza & Family Restaurant, 21 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Morrisville: 7.8 (square Trenton-style tomato pie)
  • Mama Russo's Pizzeria, 608 Philadelphia Ave., Trevose: score not posted yet; closed Sundays
  • All three visits: Friday, Oct. 9, 2026
  • Tip: all three have been busy since the visits, so ordering ahead for pickup is the easy move
