LaScala's Fire Is Open in Newtown, With Pizza and a Sushi Bar

by Nick Rau

Newtown just got a dinner spot where you can order a vodka pie and a spicy tuna roll at the same table, and nobody has to compromise. LaScala's Fire is now open at The Village at Newtown, 2948 S. Eagle Road, in the space Ardana Food & Drink called home for three and a half years. It's the first Fire restaurant from the LaScala Restaurant Group in Bucks County, and it opened just weeks after Newtown Township supervisors approved it on Sept. 23, 94.5 PST reported.

The group describes the concept as "classic Italian American, reimagined," and its website promises food made fresh daily, "just like grandmom did." If you've eaten at a Fire in Northeast Philadelphia, Upper Dublin or Marlton, you already know the idea: generous plates meant for sharing with friends and family. Now there's one in Bucks County.

A quick handoff, and a soft landing for the staff

The turnaround was fast. Ardana's owners, the Christou family, served their last night in Newtown on Oct. 10 and said they had decided to "pass the torch," while their Warrington location stays open. LaScala's acquired the space, and all of Ardana's Newtown employees were offered jobs at the new restaurant, according to 94.5 PST. That means some familiar faces may still be working the room.

What's on the menu

LaScala's Fire menus posted for its other locations run from red and white pies to a Grandma's Pie, a Vodka Pie loaded with pepperoni, sausage and meatballs, and a Short Rib Pizza alongside the pastas you'd expect. Then it takes a turn most Italian spots don't: a full sushi menu with maki and house rolls, chef's choice sushi and sashimi, and poke bowls, plus a full bar with cocktails, beer and wine. Check the Newtown menu when you book, since items can vary by location. So the family member who always wants sushi finally has a reason to say yes to Italian night.
