Athletes helping athletes. Parkwood Youth Organization is hosting its Helping Hands All Abilities Flag Football Clinic on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 3301 Mechanicsville Road. The clinic is built for athletes ages 5 to 13 with autism or other special needs, and siblings, friends and peer helpers are welcome too, according to PYO's announcement.

A Saturday midday clinic on Mechanicsville Road gives Parkwood families a low-pressure way to get every player in the game.

What's on the schedule

PYO keeps groups small, instructions clear and the pace flexible so players can jump in at their own comfort level. The heart of the clinic is peer helpers working alongside the athletes. Bring comfortable athletic clothes, sneakers or cleats and a water bottle. PYO provides flags, balls and encouragement. Favorite comfort items or ear protection are welcome.

The fee is $20, and registration is open through PlayMetrics. Volunteers can help as coaches, buddies or set-up crew by emailing [email protected]. PYO notes it is 100% volunteer-run.

Why it's worth showing up

Every player gets a place on the field. If you've been looking for a welcoming first flag-football experience for a child who needs a flexible pace, this is built for that.
